A tufted perennial with lots of slender, hairless stems. The plant gets it’s name from the scale-like bracts that resemble a cat’s ears. This plant produces yellow flowers with bristly, purple-tipped bracts below them. It flowers from June to September and suits dry, grassy habitats and slightly acidic soils, ranging from sand-dunes to heathlands.
